Opening-up Project

https://www.opendesk.cc/ and  http://www.sketchchair.cc/

Are two websites, where you either design your desk or your own chair. But is it totally your own design?
I think the main design is from 'opendesk' or 'sketchchair' and that you as a user can adjust there main design and to create your own taste, but the base line will stay the same.

https:/https://www.fairphone.com/

A very interesting website for the people now a days. We all have a smart-phone, but how fair is your phone? Do you know where and how it has been made? Or better yet, from what kind of products it has been made?
On the website of fairphone they give a clear explanation of how they create and design a 'fairphone' and the most awsome part of this is, that you can buy your own 'Fairphone'

https://www.ponoko.com/

Ponoko is an 'Open Design' platform where you can find made products, blue prints and new designs.
But is this 'Ponoko' totally open?
For my opinion this website is not totally open. Why? Open Design for me is designs and idea's should be open for anyone. 'Ponoko'shares such idea's but on the other side, they sell designed products, idea's and even blue prints. Than is this 'Ponoko' still open?

Manifest 'Open Design'

This is all the pollution we created during our proces of making the salad spinner. We acknowledge the sum of production of pollution during our proces. Because of this experiance I adjusted Manifest of Open Source & Design.

I acknowledge the problem by trying to make this product by myself without connecting with real designers. If I had done that, it would have been 1. Easier to make the product work.  2. To sustain the amount of pollution during our process.
So because of this experience I wrote down a Manifest of how I think Open design should be acknowledged.

‘It is not just a way to design products, but it must also be part of everyday life. ‘

I will:
·                     find opportunities to design in the open
·                     share my design experiences; both the good and the bad
·                     find time for meaningful projects
·                     openly participate in design discussions
·                     work with other designers by choice
·                     improve my toolbox
·                     The knowledge of trying a adhocism solution, before developing something new
·                     Sharing of knowledge how to make a sustainable production
·                     Find a solution by using sustainable material
·                     The designer should think about the natural and cultural systems
·                     The whole process of making a product should be accessible to everyone
·                     Making existing products more resource efficient

‘The designer should think about the natural and cultural systems’ this would be one of the most important thing to think about before opening up, or before designing a new product. How can we encourage new users and designers create with sustainable material and how can we make existing products more resource efficient?

To do this we should acknowledge to design for sustainability with a focus on people considers ways of satisfying fundamental human needs. Here lies the greatest potential benefit: different satisfiers have different implications not only for people but also for other factors such as the environment. A focus on needs and the ways that needs are satisfied does not exclude the design and production of products, services or systems. Conversely, a focus on the design of products, services and systems cannot promote sustainable consumption without consideration of people's needs. Implicit in this is a requirement for designers to engage with issues underlying consumer actions, to understand behavior in many contexts, and to connect with people's aspirations and expectations.

Designing for sustainability, we address the design dimension of environmental and social crisis explicitly by using the concept of design for sustainability. Use Instead of an aesthetic, the ideas embodied in the design to link sustainability and alliances between people and their environment and are not tied to an individual design profession. Here they can use various platforms where professional designers and non-professionals can communicate with each other about there idea’s. A good and environmentally friendly product by helping each other is one of the most important points. By sharing knowledge also shows how open and accessible open design is.
 - Process for the manufacture of products should be durable expired.
- Selected material goods must be durable.
- Products of our daily lives that we use are durable, but also accessible to ourselves to make / repair.
- Sharing of knowledge in the field of sustainable production.
- With its open design process and product came about in a sustainable manner.
-Decisions that the designers participate in open design should take into account industrial, natural and cultural systems.
-The whole process of making a product to be accessible to everyone

AdHocism

Adhocism in my own bathroom
Adhocism is never pretty, but it is necessary.
The below part out of the Manifest of Adhocism fits my solution in the bathroom.
The picture sais it all 'Adhocism badly done is a lazy put-together of different things'

John Thackara & Bas van Abel

John Thackara
Mister John Thackara has a different vision when it comes to 'Opening things'. He stands for the sustainability of a product. This is what he wants to say to all the 'Open designers'. I like his way of thinking that it is important to think about the surtain sustainability of a product and of material that will be used by designers. He wants to make the designers aware of surtain things before they develope a new product, or by opening things. Designers should be aware of the industrie and the culture systems.
Bas van Abel
In the society in which we live today is the manufacture and use of products shifted to the edges of our cities or even other continents . First, this took place in the local area . As a result, a number of questions . One of them is the following. How can we expect people to understand these complexities ? And are we actively working on it , how do we make people feel ownership and how they can take responsibility ? An active owner of an object is involved in the process of creation, production and adaptation . In the "openness " of a product / object is not just to design it. It's also about the organizational and sometimes political context in which the product is made . It is the intangible systems and processes behind a product . This is called 'dark matter' . In open products is about to bring out the 'dark matter' and to understand. This is done at the fair phone . Here they tried to tell a story about the telephone. Doing this creates a dialogue between all parties involved , the 'dark matter' is brought to the surface . So we can figure out what is needed to change the phone which is a produced our system.

Design Philosophy
OXO was founded in 1990 on the philosophy of Universal Design, which means the design of products usable by as many people as possible. For OXO, that means designing products for young and old, male and female, lefties and righties and many with special needs. The goal of making products more usable forces us to first identify problems and inefficiencies of existing products (including our own!), not only in terms of comfort, but performance as well. This gives us the foundation to meet our commitment of making products that make a tangible improvement in peoples' daily lives.
Annual Growth:
Between 1991 and 2009, OXO’s annual growth rate in sales was 27%.

Universal Design - A philosophy of making products that are easy to use for the widest possible spectrum of users.

OXO's founder, Sam Farber, chose the name "OXO" because whether it's horizontal, vertical, upside down or backwards, it always reads "OXO."
Pronunciation:
We hear a lot of interpretations of the pronunciation of the name, the most common being "hugs & kisses" or "Oh-X-Oh." The official pronunciation is "Ox-Oh."
Most Popular OXO Tool Among OXOnians
The OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner ranks the most popular which, not surprisingly, is one of the most popular items among consumers.
Our Favorite Hobbies
We are a diverse group here with almost as many answers provided as there are OXOnians, but somehow it works. Most prefer to be outdoors, whether that's running, hiking, biking or going to the beach. Travel and reading are also very popular. Among our readers, most still prefer to curl up with a good old-fashioned book (instead of an e-reader).
Pet Preference
We're most definitely dog people.

Wiki Salad Spinner

History
salad spinner, also known as a "salad tosser", is a kitchen tool used to wash and remove excess water from salad greens. It uses centrifugal force to separate the water from the leaves. This is necessary in order to keep the greens from going limp and enable salad dressing and oil to stick to the leaves. Although devices used to wash, dry and spin salad have long been in existence, including one specimen from the 19th century, the modern mechanism-operated spinner originated in the early 1970s.

Salad spinners are usually made from plastic and include an outer bowl with an inner removable colander or strainer basket. A cover, which fits around the outside bowl, contains a spinning mechanism that when initiated causes the inside strainer to rotate rapidly. The water is driven though the slits in the basket into the outer bowl. There are a number of different mechanisms used to operate the device, including crank handles, push buttons and pull-cords. The salad spinner is generally easy to use, though its large and rigid shape has led to criticism; the product is often considered bulky, space consuming and difficult to store.

New style spinner
OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner

Oil-based salad dressings adhere best to greens that are completely dry — and the OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner makes rinsing and drying your nutritious greens fun and easy.
Simply press the soft, non-slip knob to start the basket spinning. Simple, one-handed operation makes this Spinner a pleasure to use, and a built-in brake stops the Salad Spinner so you can unload it. A non-slip ring keeps the bowl steady on the countertop, and the basket and bowl can be used separately.
The Spinner basket doubles as a colander for rinsing greens, the clear bowl doubles as a salad bowl, and the entire spinner is dishwasher safe.

From drying salad to showing animations.

After his original form and use of the salad spinner. The 'Zootrope' got a new form and shows animation by turning the handle. The newest model has been developed on April 2014 by Daniella de Windt and Varshana Kesharie, both studends from the Willem de Kooning Academie, Rotterdam. These designers developed a new use and gave the salad spinner a new purpose. Not to dry lettuce, but to show animations, by just turning a handle.
